Old Donation Church
The current church is the 3rd building of the Lynnhaven Parish.  The original site was located at Church Point.  Due to rising waters of the Lynnhaven River the church was rapidly deteriorating.  The grave sites became over washed by the rising tide with the major portion of grave stones under water.  Some stones were retrieved and moved elsewhere.  A decision was made to build the church at a new location.  Thus in 1692 a new church was built with the specifics of “a good substantial brick church 45 feet in length, 22 feet in breadth and 13 feet in height."  The current sanctuary was built in 1736 and was heavily damaged by fire in 1882.  The present church structure is a restoration using the original walls and was completed in 1916.  The baptismal font was rescued from the waters of The Lynnhaven and stands as the sole survivor of the first Lynnhaven Parish Church.  The grave yard holds the markers of many of the early members.
