PRESIDENT'S CORNER
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share
some information from our last Civic League meeting. My name is David Long
and I am a Firefighter/Paramedic with the City of Chesapeake. I have a
beautiful wife, Ann, and two children, Dillan and Ian. I am currently attending
Regent University to complete my Bachelor's of Science in Organizational
Leadership and Management. I also work at Tidewater Community College as
an Adjunct Faculty member. As you can see, I am very active, so if I do
not return your phone call right away, please do not get discouraged I
will call you back.
As president of the Civic League, I need to know what your expectations
are for our community. What do you want to accomplish? I assume that the
majority of you would agree that we want a safe neighborhood, a neighborhood
that is aesthetically pleasing, an active membership that is involved in
the community, and a community filled with pride. Please be conscious of
your neighbors. By this, I mean be aware of noise levels, assist in the
neighborhood watch program, and be compliant with rules, regulations, and/or
guidelines.
Over the course of the next year we will be looking at ways to increase
our membership, continue with median improvements, pressure wash the "Gazebo",
and explore the possibility of creating a Website. If you have any questions
or concerns, please do not hesitate to call any member of the Board.
I look forward to working with you this year!
David Long

Chris Kurht Update
For newcomers, Chris is a 14-year-old neighbor here in the Meadows.
He is battling brain cancer. As a community, many of us have been trying
to help the family by taking dinner to them on Thursday nights. HOWEVER,
in order to continue we need more families that are willing to provide
a meal. If you would like to participate, contact Gerry Richter to schedule
a time and date convenient to you. Chris has 27 more weeks of chemo to
go. He will go into the hospital on Feb 18th for a "chemo cocktail". Be
thankful it is not your child and help out please.
You may contact Gerry through the Newsletter Editor at jim.hal@cox.net. |

Neighborhood Watch Program
COMMUNITY CRIME REPORT NOTIFICATION AVAILABLE VIA E-MAIL
Several juveniles were apprehended and charged with the recent burglaries
in Pembroke Meadows and Shores.
Please continue to be alert:
-
Know your neighbors.
-
Be alert to unfamiliar faces and their activities.
-
Make note of suspicious vehicles - write down license numbers - be accurate.
Call 911 if necessary, or 427-5000 to report information of a non-emergency
nature. Remember, not all crime is committed by adults. Statistics show
children, 12 and up, are major contributors to serious crime.
We will now offer to notify residents via E-MAIL of all crimes
of vandalism and break-ins that have been reported to us. Each of us needs
to watch out for each other and report to police any crimes, suspicious
activity or persons. On several occasions residents noticed young men and
teenagers trespassing, but did not notify the residents or police and some
homes were broken into. If we work together we can stop these crimes and
the perpetrators will be caught.
If you wish to be notified --simply e-mail JIM HALL at jim.hal@cox.net
stating that you want to be on the "community crime notification list."
Jim has volunteered his services. However, we also must report any incidents
to him and your neighborhood watch coordinators. This has to be a neighborhood
concern and cooperation is needed. Another way we can help each other and
keep informed.

SPRING IS AROUND THE CORNER!
The groundhog saw his shadow--- that means six more weeks of winter.
Before we know it, it will actually be spring and neighbors will be out
and about enjoying the warm weather. The construction will have started
on the median enhancement and the ladies of the Garden Club will be out
cleaning median flowerbeds and planting the beautiful, colorful flowers
that we all enjoy so much. Let's all be considerate of the construction
workers and our neighbors and drive slowly by the median when they are
working. Many neighbors have been complaining of the speed of cars through
our neighborhood. Please remember that the speed limit is 25 mph.
