Pembroke Meadows Civic League
General Membership Meeting
Thursday, April 21, 2011
Nineteen people attended the meeting, which was held at the Moore’s
house since we didn’t have access to the school.
In the absence of our President, Jim Price, Kristine Martin, First Vice
President, called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m., and introduced the
night’s speaker, Trieste Lockwood from Virginia Inter-Faith Power and Light,
who spoke against lifting the Virginia ban on uranium mining.
Following Ms. Lockwood’s presentation, the business meeting began.
-
Last month’s meeting minutes were accepted.
-
Mike Moore handed out a summary treasurer’s report.
-
Mike then proceeded to discuss the proposed 2011 budget which has not yet
been approved by the general membership.
-
The biggest change in the budget is the cost of insurance. It went
up about $50.
-
Pool expenses – last year we gave the pool $8,000. In this budget,
we have set aside $4,000.
-
We have set aside $6,500 for the pool membership stimulus plan. This
is enough to cover 65 families.
-
Income estimates are about the same as last year.
-
It turns out that the additional antenna on the T-Mobile tower is not for
a new subscriber.
-
Donna moved that we accept the proposed budget. Clif Furedy seconded
her motion and the budget was unanimously approved by the membership.
-
Brian Miller made his committee report.
-
He is a little behind on his report to the City about median clean-up,
but will be catching up.
-
Cheryl Douglas reported that after new memberships received tonight, we
are up to 200.
-
Jim Willenbrink made his Waterways report.
-
Clean the Bay Day comes up on June 4.
-
Garden Club report:
-
Jeanette Willenbrink reported that she will meet with someone from the
City on Monday to talk about plants for the entrance median. She
has no idea about the cost of the plants, but the City will install them.
-
Clif moved that we authorize Jeanette one-time authority to spend up to
$500 for plants. The motion was seconded and approved by the membership.
-
Kristine volunteered to help with clean-up around the brick wall.
-
Jeanne Blair, Pool Director, reported:
-
As yet, we don’t have the pre-Memorial Day dinner caterer. We should
be selling tickets for the dinner this week. The dinner will be the
Thursday night before Memorial Day, May 26.
-
On May 28, the Friday before opening day, the pool will be open to everybody.
-
May 29 and after, the pool will be open for members only.
-
On the day of the Spring Fling, May 14, there will be a cook-out at the
pool, beginning at 11 o’clock.
-
There will be a Corn Hole competition on July 4.
-
Kristine asked if there was any new business. There being none, the
meeting was adjourned at 8:19 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
