Pembroke Meadows Civic League
General Meeting
Thursday, May 20, 2010
The meeting was called to order by the President after it was determined
that our guest speaker could not make her presentation, since computer
access was not possible. Twenty-one people were present.
Jim Hall handed out copies of the Treasurer’s Report. The Civic
League paid the pool $8385 for maintenance. Maintenance included
re-doing the office, buying 180 tons of gravel, re-building the old pump,
upgrading the bathroom, re-doing the floors. There was a motion to
accept the report. After a second, the vote was to accept.
Mike asked if there was a motion to approve last month’s minutes.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the minutes.
Mike Moore then asked for reports from officers and committees.
Buildings and Grounds
-
The City has approved the gazebo application. The paperwork needs
to be notarized and then will go to the City on Tuesday.
-
Median clean-up; volunteers are needed.
-
Jeff Brown reported that a number of neighborhood street lights will be
replaced this summer with high-pressure sodium bulbs.
Donna told us that our speaker for tonight has graciously agreed to come
back for our September meeting.
John Sheadel reported that we have about 200 members. Between
17 and 18 new members came because of the stimulus plan.
Jeanne Blair gave the Recreation Center report.
-
Jeanne described all the work Mike Moore has been doing at the pool and
called for a round of applause.
-
Mike was with the inspector and the pool passed.
-
We are still taking applications for membership—with the stimulus.
-
Carol Moore has tickets for dinner on the 27th. Adults - $12.00;
Children - $8.00.
-
The pool will open on Saturday, May 29 at 11 a.m.
-
There will be a Memorial Day Cookout. Bring a side dish. There
will be hot dogs, hamburgers for sale.
-
Then we start the regular season.
Committee reports:
-
Block Security
-
Mike referred to the e-mail sent out about some neighborhood thefts.
-
Kristine Martin reported the bizarre tale about two people who tried to
steal her dogs from her property.
-
Lakes and Waterways
-
Jim Willenbrink provided information about Clean the Bay Day. That
is June 5 from 9 – 12 p.m.
-
Tree removal from the park. We should try to get the City to remove
the tree hanging over the lake. A motion was made, seconded and passed
to have Jim call the City and see what can be done.
-
Alligator weed. Some property owners have hired a company to remove
it adjacent to their properties. Jim has talked to the company and
has been assured that the chemical being used will not poison the water.
He recommended that they remove the stuff after it has died—otherwise it
will settle on the bottom of the lake.
-
Pets Lost and Found
-
If you have a pet and haven’t filled out a form, please do so.
Bill the mailman reports that 48,000 pounds of food was collected in Virginia
Beach for the food bank. Of that total, 8,000 came from the Bayside
Station.
New Business:
-
The Board was talking about a neighborhood-wide party in August—either
the 7th or the 14th. Food would be provided by the Civic League.
-
Donna Price made a motion that the Civic League support the neighborhood
party and the cost will not exceed $600. The motion was seconded
and passed.
-
There will be new markers for the storm drains.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:57 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
