Pembroke Meadows Civic League
General Meeting
Thursday, April 15, 2010
The meeting was called to order by the President at 7:10 p.m.
He introduced our guest speaker from LifeNet who made a presentation about
becoming an organ or tissue donor. Twenty-five people were present.
The business meeting followed the LifeNet presentation.
Mike asked if there was a motion to approve last month’s minutes.
A motion was made by Bill Hawley, seconded and passed to accept the minutes.
The Treasurer is on vacation; hence, no report this month.
Mike Moore then asked for reports from officers and committees.
Bill Hawley
-
Mike has exciting gazebo news.
-
Bill reported that the request has been approved by the City. There
is a notarized document that needs to be signed.
-
Clif made a motion that we authorize the President to sign this document.
The motion was seconded, and passed. Specifically the motion was
“to authorize Mike Moore to represent the Civic League of Pembroke Meadows
in signing an agreement with the City of Virginia Beach to permit a temporary
encroachment to construct and maintain a gazebo in an existing City right-of-way.”
-
We must maintain insurance for the gazebo. If the City decides they
don’t want it there, it must be removed within 30 days. We must keep
it up. If not, we will be charged for the City’s costs in removing
it.
-
The brick entryway repair has been completed. The new light is in
place, but it does not have frosted glass, as does the other light.
A request will be made to have frosted glass for the new light.
-
Bill asked for volunteers for median duty.
John Sheadel reported that we have 177 members.
Mike Moore gave the report for the Recreation Center Director.
-
Pool membership applications are coming in. If in by April 30, there
will be a 10% early bird discount. In addition, the Civic League
is offering a $100 credit for civic league members residing in the civic
league membership area.
-
The Spring Fling will be on Saturday, April 17.
-
The trees at the pool have been pruned.
-
After the Spring Fling, gravel will be put on the parking lot.
Newsletter: Donna said the deadline for newsletter articles is the
fifth of each month.
Clif spoke for the directory. We have collected addresses for
the entire neighborhood. We used to print a directory, but have not
done so for several years. If you have given your permission, your
address, name and phone number are listed at the website. Please
check the listing and send an e-mail if your listing is incorrect.
Clif will give Donna an article for the next newsletter asking people to
update their information.
There was a question regarding some material that last month’s speaker
was going to provide for dissemination. A couple of people have the
document and will see that it is provided.
Ladies Lunch group—schedule is provided in the newsletter.
Garden Club—ladies in the community who are interested are invited to
join.
New business:
Mike said the flag will be at half mast tomorrow because of the Virginia
Tech massacre anniversary.
Donna would like suggestions for possible speakers in the coming months.
Apparently, the traffic lights at Independence are not working properly
in the evening. We will report that to the City.
The drawing for pool membership was done by a little girl. Pat
Sheadel was the winner.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned by the President
at 8:09 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Barbara Amos |
