College Commissioning Ceremony, 5/16

2Lt. David E. Cunningham and 2Lt.
Logan P. Rash were commissioned in the United States Army during the
Graduation Ceremony at Virginia Wesleyan College. LTC Mark D. Rea,
Professor of Military Science at Old Dominion University administered the
oath. The traditional first salute was rendered to Lt. Cunningham
by his dad, a retired Navy Diver and to Lt. Rash by Master Sergeant
Todd Bair, ODU Senior Military Instructor. LTC Rea hosted the
ceremony and the guest speaker was Dean David Buckingham, Vice President
for Student Affairs and Dean of Enrollment Services for the College.
Another great day for our newly commissioned officers, their families,
and the United States Army. Pictured below is COL Jim Edge USA (Ret)
with Lt. Cunningham (top) and Lt. Rash (bottom). |

Chesapeake Veterans
Benefits Field Office Opening
|

CDR Matt Krakower, USN (Ret), member
of HRCMOAA and the Chesapeake Mayor’s Commission of Veteran Affairs represented
our chapter at the dedication of the Chesapeake Veterans Benefits Field
Office. The Honorable John C. Harvey, Jr., Virginia Secretary of
Veterans and Defense Affairs performed the ribbon cutting (pictured above
left with CDR Krakower).
Other known chapter members in attendance
were CoL Jack Hilgers, USMC (Ret), CDR John Uhrin, USN (Ret),
and CAPT William “Buck” C. Wheaton, USN (Ret) who gave the Pledge
of Allegiance. The space was packed with between 200 and 250 people
and there was standing room only. State Senators Alexander
and Cosgrove were there along with Delegates Leftwich and
Villanueva.
Representing the City of Chesapeake were Mayor Krasnoff along with
many other members of city council. Additionally, three TV stations
covered the event. |

Luncheon (21 May)

The Virginia Council of Chapters of the
Military Officers Association of America named Congressman J. Randy
Forbes (VA-04) “Legislator of the Year.”
“The VCOC recognized Forbes with its annual
legislative award for his many years of faithful support and loyal service
regarding veterans and military compensation and benefits legislation.”
Bert
Ortiz, Jim Edge, Don Buzard and Linc Smith attended
and “discussed key state and national legislative issues with our congressional
delegation.” |

Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, Michael D. Stevens. His remarks
were sobering. He reminded us of those who have made the ultimate
sacrifice and their families. |

Chesapeake, VA - Matt Krakower,

the Chesapeake Veterans Memorial at Chesapeake City Hall. The ceremony
was well attended, included patriotic music, representatives from several
veterans organizations, and a guest speaker. |

Delegate Chris Stolle, Virginia
House of Delegates 83rd District Representative (Norfolk and Virginia Beach)
speaks to our members. He answered many questions, mostly about veterans’
issues. |
